There is a cachet to wine that prompts connection, a fellowship when people hold up their glasses and toast a person or a project that has brought them together. And there may be no better time for celebrating this sense of fellowship than in spring, season of bright colors and new growth.
At Pisoni, spring is Lucy season. This year, the family will release Lucy 2025 Rosé of Pinot Noir alongside Lucy 2025 Pico Blanco and Lucy 2025 Gamay Noir. The exuberant aromatics of the 2025 Gamay, the vibrancy of the Pico Blanco, and the beautiful acidity of the Rosé all seem emblematic of the liveliness of spring.
From the beginning, Jeff, Pisoni’s vintner, and Mark, its farmer, have delighted in the family’s Lucy label. The name alone has a kind of spring in its step. And there is a serendipity to Lucy that has made it the perfect place for a project of sharing and fellowship. The heartwarming brilliance of the Rosé’s beautiful hues may have had something to do with this fact, too. Regardless, more than twenty years ago, after sharing a bottle of this wine, Mark and Jeff decided it should be the means through which Pisoni could give heart and courage to others.

And so they have. Since 2005, the family has raised $250,000 for the breast cancer foundations and associations with whom they partner. “We started what we thought was a small project because we’re a small family winery trying to do what we think is the right thing,” Mark remembers. “But this project has been more impactful than we expected. We never imagined the impact would grow like this.” Jeff feels the same way. “We’ve met some amazing people and have been honored to learn from them of their appreciation for what we’re doing to assist breast cancer research,” he explains.
Among them are President Susan Jordan of the Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey County, who affirms a close connection with the family when she writes, “Pisoni has been there for us from the start.” And there is Jennifer Branham, who describes the “essential financial assistance for household expenses” Pisoni has provided for the Go Jen Go Foundation. “We truly could not make this impact without your generosity,” Branham writes.
This vintage, Pisoni is partnering with a new face—artist Katherine Mason, whose most recent body of work, Lipstick Series, has been fashioned with lipsticks given to her by breast cancer survivors and their friends and families. Jeff and Mark are pleased to be able to feature her rose painting titled Janie alongside Pisoni’s own Lucy Rosé of Pinot Noir. It feels an inspired choice: this meticulously crafted painting recalls the gorgeous peach tones of the Rosé beautifully. Just as the Pisonis give back to others by funding breast cancer organizations, so too does Mason, whose proceeds from her paintings support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
It turns out that for both the artful painter and the artful winemakers, there are ethics as well as an aesthetics to working slowly and deliberately, and practicing their craft with care.

2025 Lucy Rosé of Pinot Noir ›
The 2025 Lucy Rosé of Pinot Noir is a bottle alive with vibrance and energy. Cool weather from summer through harvest maintained bright acidity. The wine’s character is foreshadowed with the pale salmon color. Aromatics are lively—emitting from the glass are notes of strawberries, grapefruit, hibiscus, and Monterey Bay sea breeze. The palate builds with rose petal, summer berries, and cantaloupe. 2025 was a particularly late year for sugar development on the vine, which allowed for slow and delicate ripeness. The Lucy Rosé of Pinot Noir was fermented and aged in neutral barrels that bring an attractive texture while maintaining a crisp and dry finish. The complexity and acidity bring this rosé to pair with many different foods and situations from casual to formal. Enjoy!
2025 Lucy Pico Blanco ›
Pale straw in the glass, the 2025 Lucy Pico Blanco is a vibrant and elegant blend of Pinot Gris (70%) and Pinot Blanc (30%). On first swirl, notes of white peach, Meyer lemon, and honeysuckle burst to life with remarkable intensity. Subsequent layers of wet stone and white flowers mingle with a chalky minerality that nods to the wine’s varied origins in the Santa Lucia Highlands (granite) and Chalone (limestone). The wine zips across the palate with flavors of lychee, lemon blossom, and near-ripe pear, all carried by crisp, bright acidity. The cooler 2025 vintage allowed for exceptional phenolic development at lower sugars, creating a wine that is light on its feet yet deeply textured. Bright and refreshing, this wine pairs beautifully with many seafood dishes inspired by the coastal Monterey region.
2025 Lucy Gamay Noir ›
Generous, full of life, and irresistibly approachable. Deep fuchsia in the glass with unmistakable vibrancy, this wine bursts with energy. Bright notes of fresh violets, cranberry, and wild strawberry pop from the glass at first swirl, layered with subtle hints of baking spice. The palate is a teeming basket of mixed fruit filled with juicy marionberries, Bing cherries, and pomegranate. Remarkable acidity keeps the wine lifted and energetic while neutral barrels allow the pure fruit character to shine uninhibited by oak. Cooler temperatures in 2025 and the granite soils created a Gamay with impressive depth. Elegant tannins are woven seamlessly into the wine’s structure. This wine is excellent now and drinks well chilled-perfect for summer.
